Atacama Giant (geoglyph)

The Atacama Giant is a large geoglyph located in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile, created by ancient peoples around 1000-1400 AD. It depicts a humanoid figure, about 119 meters (390 feet) long, and is believed to have served as a Mesoamerican-style astronomical calendar or ceremonial marker. Carved into the desert floor by removing stones and earth, it is the largest known prehistoric figure in the Americas. Its purpose remains uncertain, but it likely held cultural or spiritual significance for the indigenous inhabitants of the region. The geoglyph is an impressive example of ancient landscape art and engineering.
