
At the Earth's Core
"At the Earth's core" refers to the innermost layer of our planet, composed mainly of iron and nickel. It consists of a solid inner core and a surrounding liquid outer core. The core's intense heat and movement generate Earth's magnetic field, which protects us from harmful solar radiation. Temperatures reach up to 9,000°F (5,000°C), comparable to the surface of the Sun. Although we can't access it directly, scientists learn about the core through seismic waves from earthquakes, which help us understand its composition, structure, and behavior beneath Earth's crust.
