Asset Forfeiture Law
Asset forfeiture law allows law enforcement to seize assets believed to be linked to criminal activity. This can include cash, vehicles, or property allegedly connected to drug trafficking, money laundering, and other crimes. The seized assets can then be sold, with proceeds often funding police operations. There are two main types: criminal forfeiture, which requires a conviction, and civil forfeiture, which does not. Critics argue it can lead to abuses, as individuals may lose property without being charged with a crime, while supporters believe it deters crime and disrupts illegal operations.
