Assembly of the Province of Canada
The Assembly of the Province of Canada was the elected legislative body established in 1841, combining the previously separateCanadian regions of Upper and Lower Canada into one government. It served as the main decision-making institution, where representatives debated laws and policies affecting the province. The Assembly worked alongside the appointed Executive Council (similar to a cabinet), and together they shaped legislation. Its creation aimed to provide more responsible government and local representation, setting the foundation for Canada's political development. The Assembly existed until 1867, when it was replaced by the legislatures of the new provinces formed with Confederation.
