Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir
The Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir was a legislative body responsible for making laws and governing the region when it was a separate state. It consisted of elected representatives who debated and decided on issues like education, health, and development projects. The assembly functioned within the framework of the state's constitution, representing the people’s interests. In 2019, the Indian government restructured the region by abrogating its autonomous status and reorganizing it into two separate Union Territories—Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh—thus centralizing governance and replacing the state's legislative assembly with a local legislative council or direct administration.
