Assembly of Experts

The Assembly of Experts is a religious council in Iran composed of qualified clerics responsible for selecting and overseeing the country's top leader, the Supreme Leader. Members are elected by the public through a process that assesses their knowledge of Islamic law and leadership qualities. Their main duty is to ensure the Supreme Leader’s policies align with Islamic principles and to advise or, in rare cases, dismiss him. The Assembly plays a crucial role in maintaining ideological legitimacy within Iran’s political system, acting as a key link between religious authority and governance.
