Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai

Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai is an Afghan politician and academic who served as the President of Afghanistan from September 2014 until August 2021. He was born in 1949 and educated at institutions like Johns Hopkins University. Before his presidency, he worked at the World Bank and held various roles in Afghanistan’s government, including finance minister. Ghani emphasized economic development and anti-corruption but faced significant challenges, particularly from the Taliban. As the U.S. withdrew its troops, Ghani fled Afghanistan in August 2021, leading to the Taliban's resurgence and significant changes in the country's political landscape.
