ASCVD (atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease)
Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is a condition where fatty deposits, called plaques, build up inside the arteries that supply blood to the heart and other parts of the body. This buildup narrows and hardens the arteries, reducing blood flow. Over time, plaques can rupture, leading to blood clots that may cause heart attacks, strokes, or other serious problems. Risk factors include high cholesterol, high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, and unhealthy lifestyle choices. Managing these factors through lifestyle changes and medications can help prevent or slow the progression of ASCVD.
