Ascomycota

Ascomycota, also known as sac fungi, is a large group of fungi characterized by producing spores in a specialized sac-like structure called an ascus. This group includes a wide variety of organisms such as yeasts, molds, and more complex fungi like truffles and morels. They play essential roles in nature, including decomposing organic material, forming symbiotic relationships with plants (mycorrhizae), and some are used in food production and brewing. Ascomycota are distinguished by their reproductive method involving the formation of these asci, which contain the sexual spores used for reproduction.
