Asch's Conformity Experiments

Asch's Conformity Experiments tested whether individuals would conform to group opinion if it conflicted with their own perceptions. Participants were shown a line and asked to match its length to one of several options. In groups, actors (confederates) deliberately gave incorrect answers, and the real participant was unaware they were part of the experiment. Results showed many participants conformed to the group's wrong answer, indicating social pressure can influence individual judgment, even when the correct answer is obvious. The study highlights how group dynamics can lead people to conform despite personal knowledge or beliefs.
