Ascending sensory pathways
Ascending sensory pathways are the routes our body uses to send information about touch, pain, temperature, and body position from the nerves to the brain. When you feel something, sensory receptors detect it and send signals through nerves to the spinal cord. These signals then travel upward via specialized pathways, such as the spinothalamic and dorsal column tracts, to areas in the brain that interpret and give meaning to sensory information. This process allows us to perceive and respond appropriately to our environment, maintaining awareness of our body and surroundings.
