Arytenoidectomy
Arytenoidectomy is a surgical procedure that involves removing or reducing the arytenoid cartilages—paired structures in the voice box (larynx) that help control airflow and voice production. This procedure is typically performed to improve breathing in patients with airway narrowing or obstruction due to swelling, tumors, or vocal cord paralysis. By modifying or removing these cartilages, the airway becomes wider, making it easier to breathe. While it may slightly affect voice quality, the primary goal is to ensure sufficient airflow, especially when breathing difficulties are severe and other treatments haven't been effective.
