artificial heart technology

Artificial heart technology involves devices designed to replace or support the function of a failing heart. These mechanical pumps, known as ventricular assist devices (VADs) or total artificial hearts, circulate blood throughout the body, maintaining oxygen delivery and blood flow. They are usually made from biocompatible materials and powered externally or by implanted batteries. Artificial hearts can serve as a temporary solution while waiting for a transplant or as a long-term replacement for patients ineligible for donor hearts. Advances focus on durability, biocompatibility, and minimizing complications such as blood clots or infections.
