Article 88 (UCMJ)

Article 88 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) makes it a violation for any active-duty military member to publicly or privately insult, contemptuously or critically refer to, or otherwise disrespect the President or certain other high-ranking officials, such as Congress members, judges, or the Secretary of Defense. It’s meant to maintain respect for government authority within the military ranks. Violating this article can lead to disciplinary action, including courts-martial. Essentially, it enforces discipline by restricting disparaging language about senior government officials to uphold the dignity of the military and government institutions.
