Arthrocentesis

Arthrocentesis, often referred to as joint aspiration, is a medical procedure used to remove fluid from a joint. A healthcare provider uses a needle to puncture the joint space, usually the knee, hip, or shoulder, to collect a sample of the fluid for testing or to relieve pressure and pain caused by swelling. The procedure can help diagnose conditions like arthritis or infections and may also be used to inject medications directly into the joint. It is generally safe and performed with local anesthesia to minimize discomfort.
