artesian wells

An artesian well is a type of well where groundwater naturally flows upward without the need for pumping. This occurs when underground water is stored under pressure between layers of impermeable rock or clay. When a well is drilled into this pressurized zone, the pressure forces the water to rise above the level of the aquifer’s opening, sometimes reaching the surface naturally. Artesian wells are efficient because they rely on natural pressure, but they require proper geological conditions for water to flow freely. They are common sources of clean, reliable groundwater in many areas.
