arteritis classification

Arteritis is inflammation of the arteries, which are blood vessels that carry oxygen-rich blood throughout the body. It is classified based on the size of the affected arteries: large vessel arteritis affects big arteries like the aorta; medium vessel arteritis targets medium-sized arteries; and small vessel arteritis involves small arteries and capillaries. Each type has different causes, symptoms, and treatments. For example, giant cell arteritis affects large arteries and can cause headaches, while granulomatosis with polyangiitis involves small vessels and may lead to kidney or lung issues. Accurate classification helps determine the best approach for management.
