Arteriovenous Malformations (AVMs)

Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are abnormal tangles of blood vessels where arteries connect directly to veins without the usual small vessels in between. This abnormal connection can disrupt normal blood flow and may cause issues like bleeding, swelling, or reduced oxygen supply to nearby tissues. AVMs can occur anywhere in the body, including the brain and spine, often without symptoms but sometimes leading to serious neurological problems or bleeding. Treatment options include surgery, embolization, or radiation therapy to reduce the risk of complications and improve symptoms.
