arteriosclerosis

Arteriosclerosis is a condition where the arteries, which are blood vessels that carry oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the rest of the body, become thickened and less flexible. Over time, fatty deposits, calcium, and other materials build up on the artery walls, leading to narrowing and hardening. This reduces blood flow and can increase the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular problems. It often develops as part of the aging process but can also be influenced by factors like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, smoking, and poor diet.
