Arterial blood gases (ABG)

Arterial blood gases (ABGs) are tests that measure the levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide in your blood, as well as its acidity (pH). These measurements help doctors assess how well your lungs are moving oxygen into your blood and removing carbon dioxide, a waste product. ABGs also provide information about your body's acid-base balance, which is important for normal function. The test involves drawing a small amount of blood from an artery, usually in the wrist. ABGs are essential for diagnosing and managing respiratory and metabolic conditions affecting your body's oxygen and acid balance.
