Artemisinin Combination Therapy

Artemisinin Combination Therapy (ACT) is a medical treatment for malaria that uses two drugs together: artemisinin (a powerful compound derived from a traditional Chinese medicinal plant) and a partner drug. This combination works more effectively and reduces the chance of the malaria parasite becoming resistant. The artemisinin component acts quickly to reduce the number of parasites, while the partner drug eliminates remaining parasites and prevents relapse. ACT is considered the most effective treatment for uncomplicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum and is recommended by the World Health Organization for malaria control.
