Arnhem (Operation Market Garden)

Operation Market Garden was a World War II military campaign launched by the Allies in September 1944, aimed at capturing key bridges in the Netherlands to enable an advance into Germany. It involved a combined airborne assault (Market) to secure the bridges, followed by a ground offensive (Garden) to exploit those positions. The operation aimed to bypass the heavily defended Siegfried Line. Despite initial successes, the plan ultimately failed due to logistical issues and German resistance, leading to heavy Allied casualties and delaying the advance into Germany. Arnhem was a critical point where many paratroopers were trapped and captured.
