Army of the Republic of Vietnam
The Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) was the military force of South Vietnam from 1955 to 1975, created to defend against North Vietnamese aggression during the Vietnam War. Comprising land, air, and naval units, it was supported by the United States and allied nations. Despite efforts and modernization, the ARVN faced challenges like corruption and inconsistent morale. Its role was central in South Vietnam's military efforts, but ultimately, it surrendered in 1975 when North Vietnamese forces captured Saigon, leading to the reunification of Vietnam under communist rule.
