Armistice of Cassibile
The Armistice of Cassibile, signed in July 1943, was a secret agreement between Italy and the Allies during World War II. It marked Italy’s surrender and switch from the Axis powers (aligned with Nazi Germany) to the Allies. This agreement led Italy to cease fighting Germany, though it caused chaos as German forces quickly moved to occupy parts of Italy and disarm Italian troops. The armistice was a turning point, ending Italy’s participation in the war alongside Axis countries and beginning its efforts to rebuild as part of the Allied alliance.
