Armenian SSR
The Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic (Armenian SSR) was a part of the Soviet Union from 1920 to 1991. It was a socialist republic with its own government under the control of the USSR, which was a coalition of several communist states. The Armenian SSR had some degree of cultural and administrative autonomy but was ultimately governed by Moscow’s authorities. During this period, Armenia experienced industrial growth and modernization, but also faced political repression and suppression of some national and religious identities. It became an independent country after the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991.
