ARDS
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is a serious condition where the lungs become inflamed and filled with fluid, making it difficult to breathe and for oxygen to reach the bloodstream. It often occurs suddenly due to injury, infection, or other illnesses. This fluid buildup reduces lung flexibility and impairs gas exchange, leading to low oxygen levels in the body. ARDS requires prompt medical treatment, typically involving mechanical ventilation to assist with breathing and addressing the underlying cause to help the lungs recover. Recovery varies, and some individuals may experience lasting lung issues.
