Archaeology and Race

Archaeology is the study of past human cultures through the excavation and analysis of artifacts, structures, and other physical remains. Race, in this context, refers to the social and historical constructs that categorize humans based on physical traits, but it has no biological basis for defining differences among populations. When examining archaeological sites, understanding how race has been socially constructed helps interpret past societies' identities, hierarchies, and interactions. Recognizing this distinction allows archaeologists to explore cultural diversity and societal dynamics without relying on simplistic or biased racial explanations.
