Arcesilaus

Arcesilaus was an ancient Greek philosopher who led the Academic Skeptic school around 267-241 BCE. He challenged the idea that we can attain absolute certainty about knowledge. Instead, he promoted withholding belief, suggesting that we should suspend judgment because our perceptions and reasoning can be flawed. His approach emphasized questioning and critical thinking, advocating for a cautious attitude toward claims of truth rather than accepting or denying them outright. This perspective encouraged intellectual humility and motivated ongoing inquiry.
