Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF)
Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) are beneficial fungi that form partnerships with most land plants. They connect to plant roots, growing into tiny structures inside the roots called arbuscules, which help exchange nutrients. In return for sugars from the plant, AMF assist in absorbing water and vital nutrients like phosphorus and zinc from the soil, making them more available to the plant. This symbiotic relationship improves plant health, growth, and resilience. AMF are essential for healthy ecosystems and sustainable agriculture, promoting efficient nutrient use and reducing the need for chemical fertilizers.
