Ararat’s history
Mount Ararat, located in eastern Turkey, is historically significant as the biblical resting place of Noah’s Ark, according to tradition. The mountain has been a cultural and spiritual symbol for Armenians, who consider it their home land's highest peak. Geologically, Ararat is a dormant stratovolcano formed millions of years ago and remains a prominent landmark. Throughout history, it has been a border region influenced by various empires, including the Armenian Kingdom, the Persian Empire, and the Ottoman Empire. Today, it is a national symbol for Armenia and a subject of exploration and myth regarding the Ark’s possible resting site.
