Aram (ancient region)

Aram was an ancient region located in the Levant, roughly corresponding to modern parts of Syria, Turkey, and Iraq. It was inhabited by the Arameans, a Semitic people who established city-states and traded extensively during the late Bronze and early Iron Ages. Aram's influence grew through commerce, language, and culture, especially with the spread of Aramaic—a widely spoken language in the ancient Near East. The region's prominence declined with the rise of larger empires like Assyria and Babylon.
