Aquagenic Urticaria

Aquagenic urticaria is a rare skin condition where contact with water triggers hives, which are raised, itchy welts on the skin. This reaction can occur with any type of water, including fresh or saltwater, and can happen regardless of the water's temperature. Unlike other types of hives, where allergies might be involved, aquagenic urticaria is not fully understood but is believed to involve a hypersensitivity to a component in the water or a reaction involving the skin’s own proteins. Treatment often focuses on managing symptoms with antihistamines, as avoiding water completely is impractical.
