Apraxia of Speech
Apraxia of speech is a motor speech disorder where the brain has difficulty coordinating the muscle movements needed for talking. People with this condition know what they want to say, but their brain struggles to plan and sequence the correct movements of the lips, tongue, and mouth. This results in inconsistent and often strained or halting speech. Apraxia is not caused by muscle weakness or paralysis but by disrupted communication between the brain and speech muscles. It can affect clarity, making speech sounds difficult to produce correctly, although understanding and thinking are typically intact.
