Appendix II

Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) lists species that are not currently threatened with extinction but may become so if their trade is not monitored. It includes plants and animals that need regulated trade to prevent future decline. Countries that are part of CITES must ensure that exports and imports of these species are controlled and documented properly to protect their populations. Essentially, Appendix II helps balance trade with conservation, ensuring these species are used sustainably while preventing illegal or harmful activities.
