APMC Act

The Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) Act was enacted to regulate the buying and selling of agricultural produce in India. It established regulated markets, known as mandis, where farmers can sell their crops to licensed traders in a transparent manner. The Act aims to ensure fair prices for farmers, reduce exploitation, and create a structured system for marketing agricultural produce. It also sets rules for licensing, quality standards, and transaction procedures. However, its implementation varies across states, and recent reforms seek to introduce more competition and reduce restrictions to enhance farmers’ income.
