Apley's Test

Apley's Test is a physical examination used to assess knee injuries, particularly the meniscus (cartilage) tears. The person lies on their stomach, with the knee bent at 90 degrees. The doctor stabilizes the thigh and gently twists and compresses the lower leg in two ways: first, by pressing down and rotating to check for pain or catching (compression test), and second, by pulling upward and rotating to see if symptoms change (distraction test). Pain during compression or relief during distraction suggests a meniscus tear. This helps doctors determine if the cartilage in the knee is damaged.
