Aphelion

Aphelion is the point in Earth's orbit when it is farthest from the Sun. Earth's orbit around the Sun is an ellipse, meaning it's slightly elongated. As a result, there are points where Earth is closer to or farther from the Sun; the closest is called perihelion, and the farthest is aphelion. Aphelion usually occurs around July 4th each year, when Earth is about 94.5 million miles (152 million kilometers) from the Sun. This position influences things like the slight variation in the intensity of seasons, but overall, Earth's climate is affected by many factors beyond just proximity to the Sun.
