APDA

APDA, which stands for Alpha-1 Protein Deficiency Association, is a health condition where the body doesn’t produce enough a specific protein called alpha-1 antitrypsin. This protein helps protect the lungs and liver from damage. Without enough of it, someone may develop lung problems like emphysema or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and liver issues, including cirrhosis. It is often inherited, meaning it runs in families. Diagnosing APDA involves blood tests, and treatment can include medications, lifestyle changes, or therapies to manage symptoms and prevent progression.
