APC Gene
The APC gene is a gene that produces a protein playing a key role in controlling cell growth and preventing tumors. It helps regulate how cells divide and ensures that they grow normally. When mutations occur in the APC gene, it can disrupt these processes, leading to uncontrolled cell growth and increasing the risk of developing colorectal cancer and other tumors. Inherited mutations in this gene are associated with a hereditary condition called familial adenomatous polyposis, characterized by the development of many polyps in the colon that can become cancerous if not managed.
