Apaf-1

Apaf-1 (apoptotic protease-activating factor 1) is a protein that plays a key role in cell death, or apoptosis. When a cell receives signals that it should die—such as damage or stress—Apaf-1 helps initiate this process by forming a structure called the apoptosome. This complex activates enzymes that break down the cell from within, preventing potential harm to the body. Essentially, Apaf-1 acts as a regulator, helping the body remove damaged or unnecessary cells in a controlled way, ensuring healthy development and protection from diseases like cancer.
