AP-Endonuclease

AP-Endonuclease is an enzyme involved in DNA repair. When DNA is damaged, such as by removing a damaged base or experiencing a break, AP-Endonuclease recognizes the altered site where a base is missing (called an abasic site). It then cuts the DNA backbone at that spot, creating a precise break. This step is crucial because it allows other enzymes to remove the damaged section and fill in the correct DNA bases, helping to maintain the integrity and stability of our genetic information.
