AOM (acute otitis media)
Acute otitis media (AOM) is a common ear infection where the middle ear becomes inflamed and filled with fluid, often caused by bacteria or viruses. It typically results in sudden ear pain, pressure, and sometimes hearing loss or fever. Children are more prone, but adults can be affected too. The infection can occur after colds or respiratory illnesses. Treatment may include pain relief and sometimes antibiotics if a bacterial infection is confirmed. Most cases resolve quickly, but prompt care helps prevent complications such as persistent hearing issues or spread of infection.
