Antivenom development
Antivenom development involves collecting venom from a poisonous animal, like a snake or spider, and injecting small, controlled doses into a host animal, often horses or sheep. Over time, these animals produce antibodies—proteins that can neutralize venom. The blood from the host is then drawn and processed to extract and purify these antibodies, creating antivenom. This product can be administered to a person bitten by a venomous animal, helping to counteract the poison's effects. The process combines immunology, biochemistry, and careful manufacturing to produce effective, safe treatments for snakebites and other envenomations.
