Antiretrovirals

Antiretrovirals are medications used to treat HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. They work by preventing the virus from multiplying in the body, helping to reduce the amount of virus, improve immune function, and decrease the risk of transmission. There are different types of antiretrovirals that target various stages of the HIV lifecycle. When taken consistently as prescribed, they enable many people with HIV to lead longer, healthier lives. While they do not cure HIV, antiretrovirals are a crucial part of managing the infection and preventing its progression.
