Antiochene School
The Antiochene School was a Christian theological movement in early Christianity, centered in Antioch (modern-day Turkey). It emphasized the use of clear language and reasoned analysis to understand Jesus Christ’s nature, stressing that Christ was both fully divine and fully human in a way that preserved their distinctness. This approach contrasted with other schools, like the Alexandrian, which focused more on mystical and spiritual interpretations. The Antiochene School played a key role in developing Christology—the study of Christ’s nature—and contributed to the understanding that Jesus’ humanity and divinity are both essential and separate aspects of his identity.
