Antiguan politics

Antigua and Barbuda's politics is a democratic system with a parliamentary framework. The country is a constitutional monarchy, recognizing the British monarch as head of state, represented locally by a Governor-General. The Prime Minister, who leads the government, is usually the head of the majority party in the House of Representatives. Elections occur every five years, and political dynamics are dominated by two main parties: the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party and the United Progressive Party. Key issues include economic development, tourism, and social services, reflecting both local and regional interests.
