Antigen CD20
CD20 is a protein found on the surface of certain B cells, which are a type of immune cell involved in producing antibodies to fight infections. It acts as a marker that helps identify these B cells. In some diseases, like certain kinds of lymphoma (a cancer of the lymphatic system), these B cells multiply abnormally. Treatments like rituximab are designed to target CD20, eradicating these cancerous B cells while sparing other immune cells. This targeted approach improves treatment effectiveness and minimizes damage to the overall immune system.
