Anticodon

An anticodon is a sequence of three nucleotides located on a transfer RNA (tRNA) molecule. It acts as a key that matches a specific three-nucleotide sequence (codon) on messenger RNA (mRNA) during protein synthesis. This matching ensures that the correct amino acid is added to the growing protein chain. Think of the anticodon as a genetic “password” that recognizes and pairs with its complementary codon, guiding the assembly of proteins with high precision. In essence, anticodons help translate genetic instructions into functional proteins by ensuring the right amino acids are incorporated in the proper order.
