Anticholinergic Medication

Anticholinergic medications are drugs that block the action of a chemical called acetylcholine, which is involved in transmitting signals in the nervous system. These medications are used to treat various conditions such as allergies, asthma, intestinal disorders, and Parkinson’s disease. By preventing acetylcholine from binding to its receptors, anticholinergics reduce muscle spasms, secretions, or other nerve signals. While effective, they can also cause side effects like dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, and urinary retention, especially if used inappropriately or in high doses.
