Anti-thymocyte globulin

Anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG) is a medication made from antibodies that target and destroy certain immune cells called T-lymphocytes. It’s used mainly to prevent or treat transplant rejection and to suppress the immune system in certain autoimmune diseases. By reducing the activity of T-cells, ATG helps minimize the body’s immune response against a transplanted organ or in conditions where the immune system is attacking itself. It is administered through infusion and can temporarily weaken the immune system to achieve its intended purpose.
